We’re often asked, both by blind and low-vision users and volunteers, if there’s anything besides the regular use of the app they can do to get involved. And there is! If you speak English and another language, you can help translate the Be My Eyes app and website, so Be My Eyes will be accessible for people in their first language.
Translating Be My Eyes is easy. Through the crowdsourcing platform Crowdin, you can access Be My Eyes’ translation projects and make your translations from English to the other language that you speak. There are currently four translation projects in Crowdin. “Be My Eyes iOS”, “Be My Eyes Android” and “Be My Eyes Server” are all connected to the app. Many languages are already added to these projects, and more translations will be added continuously as the app gets updated. The “Translation Kit” project is connected to our website and brand video. In this project you can help translate an adapted webpage and the subtitles on our brand video, so information about Be My Eyes is also available for people in their native tongue. New languages were recently added to this project, so if you speak Catalan, Chinese Cantonese, Croatian, Estonian, Georgian, Kannada, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Tamil, Ukrainian, Urdu, or Vietnamese you can help out with this translation.
Do you want to help translate the app or website into your native language, but it’s not available on Crowdin? No worries, just send us a message on Crowdin or at info@bemyeyes.com and we can add it.
Be My Eyes is where it is today because of the community of people ready to help each other out - whether that be giving visual assistance through a call or helping with translations. A big thanks to everyone who are committed to helping us breaking down the language barrier we face with users from all around the world
